The Expulsion of Malcolm X

Reading like a Shakespearean tragedy, Larry Americ Allen’s "The Expulsion of Malcolm X" explores the celebrated relationship between Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad and the devastating scandal that destroys their bond, divides the Nation of Islam, befalls an idol, dethrones a future leader of the Nation of Islam, and ultimately leads to the assassination of Malcolm X.

Imbued with poetic truth and profound irony, this beautifully sculptured play examines the strength and frailties of the human condition through the rise and fall of one of the most charismatic and controversial men in US history.  The play is a simmering cauldron of truth and lies, faith and distrust, love and lust, loyalty and betrayal, grace and scandal, and joy and pain—the innate ingredients that make us inescapably human.

The playwright invites you to witness the poignant journey of Malcolm X and see how Mr. Muhammad saves the thuggish Malcolm X from a life of crime, cradles and nourishes him to become a man of importance, and gives him the strength and wings to unite and lead his people.  Then experience the disillusionment and agony of Malcolm when he discovers that his Messenger of God has been abusing his power by having a series of adulterous affairs with several young girls.
